As some of you may know, I'm a newbie stamp collector who came across a large amount of stamps. While digging I came across a faded, used stamp. (Shown stamp is taken off a site while I find time to go find and buy a scanner)

NOTE: Mine is slightly more faded (but also clearer,) stamped with 'FRANCIS DRAKE MAY 23 1866 TROY. N.Y.)

The RN-I imprints were the first that Carpenter produced. They were the designs of the adhesive bank check and USIR stamps printed by the firm.

I1 is the bank check stamp design. It was offered for
approximately eight months, but instruments bearing it are not at all common.

Could anyone tell me more about this stamp? It's value, rarity etc? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:
I have also found a blue version, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...63602_263622

Most US Revenue stamps I have come across are minimum catalog values on average $0.25 and not rare (age is not an indicator of scarcity or rareness). The higher catalog values really come into play when the stamp is partially imperforated(straight edges on at least 1 side & perforated on the others) or completely imperforated (straight edges on all 4 sides).

I'll let Revstampman weigh in on it otherwise, he is our resident Revenue expert.

What is being referred to is a stamp that is printed right on the check. Not the individual stamp, the Bank Check Stamp is one of the most common of all US Revenues. Sorry!
