When I was a Hospice nurse I went to study Hospice in England and was sent to Exeter, England to a Hospice there to study with their nurses about how they manage hospice so well. The administrator asked me what I wanted to know about the business side of their hospice. I asked how they raised their money to build their free standing hospice. He said , besides the donations they received, they raised it by cake walks, their hospice second hand stores, and their stamp sales. He said they put an ad in a paper one day about wanting used stamps for their hospice and thousands of stamps came in from all over the world! They bagged them up and sold them for approx $4.00 a bag and really made some money that way! I thought that was really interesting ,and NOW I wished I had bought a few bags while I was there!!

Maybe they are still raising money that way. You could write to them and find out. There are probably several of us here who would buy a bag. I think this was a common way to raise money years ago. That is why some stamp mixtures are called "charity mixtures" or "mission mixtures."

Yes, great idea! I still have their info and everything I need to contact them. I tried to convince our US Hospice that I worked atback then to do stamps as a fund raiser, no one was interested.
