Greetings,

First off I would like to say that I am not 13 years of age as my profile suggests, but 41 (my age must be getting to me). I started in philately by influence of my mother. She had collected commemorative plate blocks from the thirties to the sixties, when an event in her life put a sudden end to her stamp collecting (that would be me). She got me started with a world album when I was 8 and I have been collecting on and off since then.

You can easily guess by my presence here that I am back on collecting, studying and enjoying stamps. I look forward to learning from you, and sharing what I know and having fun.

For areas of interest, I am working on building on her plate block collection. I love US air mail stamps. I grew up in the Canal Zone, so stamps from the Canal Zone and Panama are of great interest to me.

Happy collecting.

Love the first 20 CZ airmails. When you have a minute, show us what interests you.

Smauggie, I remember years ago (long before the internet and instant research) someone told me those from the Canal Zone were actually called Zonians, and it was quite a while before I found out he was not joking!

Hehe, I can understand why it might seem an odd name. Those who grew up in the Canal Zone, though were always very well aware of the "zone" aspect of life. Things were different inside the Zone than they were outside--different language, different laws, different customs, different products and different food.

I admit one of my favorite stamps to collect are US Airmails. I have chosen C23 for my avatar, assuming the image I have supplied works out. Here is one my favorite airmail covers, an FDC of C21.

Hello Smauggie! Welcome to the forum!

Lovely cover and avatar also. Your user name evokes images of a dragon hoard of treasure or, hmm, stamp hoard. If that's not it then I have spent too many years inside of books and have to get out more!

Welcome aboard. Your history says you'll fit in well here. As a 'zonian' you'll have to beware of the aliens on this board; eh, spock?

Aliens ?

Nah ! None of those here, so welcome.

Where is Spock anyway?
