First off, I would like to apologize for breaking the rules about trying to sell to soon.

Thanks KirkS for the mystic site. It was kind of overwhelming though, since I have so many different types. I did notice that the price they are selling for on mystic is very high

mwhen I am listing on ebay I list all the sheets of each type as one sale item. example I had 4 sheets of the 1994 US Civil War sheets and I sold all four together. My question is should I try to sell my stamps that way or individually or should I try to group the collections I have and sell them that way? like should I sell my legends of hollywood collection from 1995-2008, one sheet at a time, one set of the same sheet at a time, or one of each of the fourteen in the series as a group at a time?

Matthew which way would you prefer ? You can try the whole group at once and if that does not work..list them singly..seems to me its a lot less work to sell them as a group !!

I would really check the completed auctions on ebay to see what the sheets are really selling for before you decide. Depending on topic of the stamps, you might be better off selling them in the topicals section rather than the U.S. stamps. I personally wouldn't buy anything at Mystic prices as they are artifically high and many recent issues from the last few decades can be had at face or less (google Henry Gitner). Some of the more recent sheets you listed in the other post are still for sale at some post offices like the Simpsons sheet so demand would be uncertain. As for your actual question about splitting versus lumping, I would split as I would think people might just want to find that one missing sheet or set versus the whole series. An analogy: whole china sets are not selling on the market very well at all, but individual items are as people are just trying to replace the missing pieces.

I was hoping this would be fast and easy, but after messing with this for the last couple of months, this whole process has become a pretty educational and enjoyable hobby. I am beginning to get attached to the collection. Because of that, I will probably break them down to 2 or 3 sheets per sale and keep 1 or 2 of each for myself. Yeah I would feel pretty bad if I sold such a good collection for for 50 - 60% face value. Thanks again for opinions. I'm very indecisive so I'll probably be asking questions pretty frequently. Also helps that every post gets me closer to 50, so; if anyone here does want any I could sell them.

Also look into other web sites like Delcampe and Wensley(spelling?) where you don't have to worry about listing fees. List it and leave it till it sells.

Wensy.com is free and I actually buy a lot of my stamps there.

As to 50-60%. if they are mint, get face value... never sell for less, as mint stamps they are money.. sell them to a business to use for postage or a non-profit or a church anywhere...

I see someone mentioned watching other auctions like their own. That is what I did when I was selling coins a while back, and that helped a TON.

Thanks for the Wensy info I listed all of my stamps from 1995-1999 in the classifieds section and will try to sell them individually there. I said in the tilte that I was selling for between 1.1 and 2x face value. I am curious if that is reasonable or should I expect higher than 2x face value for some of my items. Just as an example on mystic.com they are selling marilyn monroe legends of hollywood full sheets for 60 dollars that is almost 10x face value. What would be a reasonalbe price to expect to get or to start the bidding price for an auction? Continues thanks for everyone's help

Mystic prices are not realistic at all. Just because Mystic prices something at a certain prices doesn't meant that's what it's actually selling for on the general market. A stamp is only has a monetary value at the point of a transaction. Think of some antique you've seen in a store year after year like it's a museum piece. If that item really worth what's on the tag? No, no real value until there's an actual transaction. I'm sure there's some sort of economic term for this, but I only took the 101 course. Mystic gives a false perception of value by creating their own values which doesn't reflect market prices. Earlier this year I used one of those Monroe sheets for postage to give you an idea. I have a sheet of the State Birds and Flowers that I'll be using soon.

I've sold a few staps on ebay. It can be a daunting task if you have a lot of them. I think you get the most money out of doing them individually. That's just my opinion.
