Given the date stamp cancel and my limited web search for the item, this appears to be a revenue stamp from Spain: Is it listed in Scott? If not, is there another listing for it that identifies it with a catalog number? Or am I completely off base as to the country of origin?

You're on track, it is a Spanish fiscal, not listed in Scott. I don't believe I have a catalogue that would show them. I'm pretty sure they are not in my Edifil (the basic Spain and Colonies...not particularly specialized), and I don't think Byrum lists them, either...someone else may have a listing. |

Hi wt1
My 2001 Edfil Catalogue does not list that stamp either.
For a catalogue that is supposed to be specialized on Spanish issues, this catalogue leaves a lot to be desired, sorry to say.

If I am not mistaken the term "Especial Movil" meant that documents with this stamp were to be fast-tracked through the bureaucratic process. |

What we need is for someone with access to Forbin (nudge, nudge) to look these up...though this stamp postdates Forbin (I think), I'm pretty sure Especial Movil stamps were around in the late 19th century, so Forbin just might have a sentence, or two, on the purpose... |

Okay, I would love to have a Forbin. A search finds the book selling for an average price of $145. I thought a set of Scott used was expensive. Still, would be a great resource to own. |

Someone has scanned in Forbin and sells access to it. I run across the link every week or two, but I've never ordered.
Rod, however, has access to Forbin...we just have to wait for him to find this thread... |

Especial Movil = Special reason stamp. Used around 1952 so will not be in Forbin (1915) My Edefil cat is packed away for my move. These will have to remain in La La Land, becasue they do not appear in any information I have, and I have quite a bit of the weird and wonderful of Spain. I'll have to apportion 1 minute of fame, whomsoever cracks this one. FORBIN #113 1904 50c vermillion Perf 14. |

Observant philatelists may note the change in the coat of arms (one has a crown, the other a castle, also the centre shiled in one has the three fleur de lis) This indicates a different time period when these were used. my info is packed away sorry.

I found this in relation to colonial usage...there is probably some degree of correlation.
"The Royal Order of March 24, 1897, created a series of TIMBRE MOVIL ESPECIAL (Special Adhesive Stamps) whose denominations were 10 centimos, 5 centimos, 2 centimos and 1 centimo. On the margin of each sheet of these stamps was printed the label TIMBRE MOVIL ESPECIAL. The upper label of each stamp read "FILIPas 1898-99". The 10 centimos denomination was substituted for the suppressed 10 centimos Recibos y Cuentas stamp. The 10 centimos denomination was also used on all duplicate and triplicate sheets of declarations of importation. The 5 centimos denomination was used on the duplicate of invoices of exportation and on the originals of coastwise trade. The 2 centimos denomination was affixed to orders for the withdrawal of merchandise from the Customs House, to all receipts and statements of account for less than fifteen pesos, to all checks on current accounts, and to all classes of advertisements which were exhibited to the public. Curiously enough, no specific use for the 1-centimo denomination was provided. These Timbre Movil Especial stamps were issued on January 1, 1898." |

On your File 2380 stamp is the coat of arms of the Second Spanish Republic (April 14, 1931 - April 1, 1939). That is a mural crown at the top. |

I just noticed (while looking for something else entirely) that the first stamp pictured above (the topic-starter from wt) was used in encased postage during the Spanish Civil War. |

Any images Collin? that must have been a very early use of that stamp. By my examples I would say it (the stamp) remained in use until at least early 1953, I am surprised there are not more examples flying around back of book.
