The stamps that will be issued from the wedding are going to sell like popcorn.....and you know what???? I love popcorn! I wonder if they are going to let any of the stamps be ordered early?
I have a friend that lives on the Isle of Wight in England. hhhmmmm, I may have to drop her a line, maybe brush off the old friendship and ask her to grab up what she can when the stamps come out. I could remind her of the good ole days when I use to babysit her and her brother....lol Okay, so I'm playing the nostalgia card.....lol, but in desperate times, it takes desperate measures!

It seems to me the postal authorities will be keenly aware of the high interest in such stamps and will issue them in such quantities as to respond to the demand. Like many modern issues, it will negatively affect future values. Of course, the TV shopping channels will be full of "collections" that one can buy for a premium price, I'm sure.
Going back to the Prince Charles/Princess Diana issues ... Anyone know what those stamps go for today on the market? I personally don't have any, but seem to recall some rather beautiful issues of that period, but I suspect they flooded the market also.
This reminds me of a story of an old lady that was friends with my Mom years ago. She was a stamp collector of sorts, and was so proud of having purchased an extensive collection of those Prince Charles/Princess Diana stamps. One day I asked her to show me the collection and she came out with several binders. When I opened the albums to see what she had, I was stunned, as every last stamp and cover in each album was mounted to the pages with CELLOPHANE TAPE! It totally ruined the collection. What made matters even worse was that they were in those fancy binders that were issued by one of the large retail firms in which she must have paid premium prices for the collection. Actually, I felt quite bad for her, a woman of rather humble means, living on a fixed income and having paid what I expect were outrageous prices for a collection of stamps she thought was worth a great deal, but wound up to be virtually worthless because of the way she used tape on the stamps. |

Great news for the young couple but as mentioned, the kind of tat this type of event generates is often beyond belief. No doubt the stamps issued not just from UK will generally be awful. |

Firstly, we were living in London at the time of the Charles and Diana wedding and will never forget the fireworks display the evening before in Hyde Park. It was a lot of fun, huge crowd. I checked my 2010 SG Concise and the two Charles & Di stamps sell for a slight premium above other issues of the same face value from the same time, total SG for the two, mint is £2.25 combined face of 39p. I do hope that the Royal Mail keeps it to two and maybe in a miniature sheet and doesn't go the Winnie the Pooh route of an issue of 10. Precedent, which seems to matter amongst things royal does point to an issue of two, but we shall see if budgetary concerns at the RM triumph over good sense. Lastly, they've been already been busy over in GB, Benham Covers has produced this: I suspect this is not the last. -Larry |

This will be a massive money spinner for Royal mail and I fully expect them to capitalise on it. With the Olympics the following year they should issue even more sets than normal. I also do not collect 'modern' as a rule thankfully. I suspect that Benham covers have had that prepared for a while along with a few others Cue the avalanche! |

A pity Benham didn't know about the special engagement ring....I am sure it would have been featured !
Let's see if it appears on any stamps that may be issued. |

Quote: Anyone know what those stamps go for today on the market? I can tell you the Charles and Diana Wedding issue from Tuvalu and Kiribati and other countries then under the "Philatelists, Ltd" influence sell on ebay at 10 - 20% face value, even with intentionally produced errors. Buy the Wedding stamps for collecting fun and interest, not investment. |

Quoted from the 11/17/2010 edition of UK's "The Guardian": Quote: Leaks to tabloid newspapers last month suggested that the Royal Mint was already making preparations to begin production of a commemorative coin to celebrate this latest royal wedding, with details expected to be confirmed today. The Royal Mail is also expected to issue souvenir stamps, including a limited edition range for collectors. |

Isle of Man have released a miniature sheet for the engagement : Quote: The Isle of Man Post Office is delighted to celebrate the announcement that Prince William is to marry long-term girlfriend Miss Catherine Middleton next year.
To mark this prestigious occasion in Royal history, the Isle of Man Post Office is issuing a miniature sheet featuring two stamps depicting Prince William and imagery of Kate and William together.
Although no date for the wedding has been set, it is expected to take place in either the spring or summer of 2011 and the couple will live in North Wales where Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, is serving with the Royal Air Force.
The couple's courtship has been somewhat of a fairytale. They met at St Andrew's University in Fife in 2001 where they were both started out on the same history of art course. They graduated in 2005, the same year as their relationship became widely known.
Now some eight years on, the couple are stronger than ever and look forward to their wedding which will be a great day of national celebration in 2011. Price £3 http://www.iompostoffice.com/stamps...tegoryid=214Drew |

Such an attractive young lady! You'd think they would have used a better picture! She will make quite a stunning Queen! As would have Diana if Charles wasn't such a "Jughead" (yes, pun intended).
(Apologies in advance to any Brit's who might be offended. BTW, My Grandmother was from London.) |

My stamp dealer bought a job lot of royal covers (royal weddings, jubilees, etc). Hardly any of them have sold in a year, despite prices way below face.
So, as BeeSee says, only get them if you want the stamps for what they are. For an investment, no way.
But if anyone wants me to get stuff when it comes out, I'd be happy to oblige.
And maybe I'll look through my various royal issues and see if anyone wants a trade. Me, I'm a republican Brit! (tho' the royal family do bring a lot of money from tourists ...) My apologies to any royalists out there!

I'm a monarchist, and I wish them well.
However, the only royal issues I collect are KGV Jubilee's and associated material (I'll thank Londonbus again for the superb work he did for me with this years Accession series) and KGVI Coronation covers, so I imagine my pennies will be safe this time! |

As I was reading the article I noticed a few things. Once Kate Middleton marries Prince William she become Princess Catherine. Is that the "Royal C"? I was reading the comments further down, and this is a better explanation of the whole thing and the poster had the better lock on the whole matter than did the author of the article. Quote: Actually, her title IF William is ever king (barring a divorce) would change from Princess Catherine to Queen CONSORT...because she is not the blood monarch and therefore is not entitled to the title of 'Queen' by anything but marriage. As for Harry and whoever he marries, they COULD actually become king and queen consort one day if Wills preceeds him in death AND provided Wills has no children at the time of his death. If Wills and Kate have an heir, when Wills dies the heir would go from Prince(ss) to King/Queen. Make sense? :) |
