A few years ago, the French post office began a series of commemorative sheets honoring engravers of past decades: "Treasures of Philately". The stamp engraved by Gandon for the 12th Congress of the UPU in Paris in 1947 is surely on the engraver's thread, but I didn't find it here. The sheet (2014) presents the stamp in several colors and € denominations, no longer Francs.

The aerial view of the Ile de la Cite et Saint-Louis engraved by Decaris for the stamp of 1950 (at that time 1000 francs) was honored in a sheet last year. The view is down river on the right side, so the heavier bridge is the Pont Marie and the lighter one is Pont Louis Philippe. Both lead to the smaller of the two islands. The two bridges seen from the island in the photograph.

The beautiful small city of Moulins lies on the Allier river which one can cross on the Pont de Regemortes. The old stone bridge has 13 arches and dates from 1763. The court jester represents the National Theatre Costume and Stage Design Museum in town. The Sacred Heart and Notre Dam churches are seen from the left bank. (2012)

(Hi, Blackfish! Welcome to the Community; your Harbour bridge is probably one of the most recognizable bridges of its kind in the world and it must be fun to see the New Year fireworks live. Hi, Alexey, It's a long time ago, but I remember that unusual Triana bridge over the Guadalquivir. K.)

President Costa e Silva Bridge, commonly known as the Rio-Niterói Bridge, is a box girder bridge crossing Guanabara Bay, in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. It is currently the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the southern hemisphere, and the sixth longest in the world. From its completion in 1974 until 1985 it was the world's second-longest bridge, second only to Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. (wikipedia)

By far the most unusual 'bridge' I have ever crossed spans the river Cher in the Loire valley. The estate of Chenonceau dates back to the 11th century. The current château was built in 1514–1522 on the foundations of an old mill and was later extended to span the river. After being restored in the 1950s, it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions of France. You need all day for the chateau and gardens. Set of stamps: 1944, at which time the chateau was a hospital for the wounded.

Two newer stamps also showed Chenonceau, 2003 and 2015. The gallery, 60 meters long, can be used for exhibitions.

Bridge of the Chain
Bridge in Roman style, built in 1798 in the city of São João de Rey.
Its thick walls are formed by large blocks of stone, rejuntadas with mortar based on whale oil. It was named after the construction of the Chain House, on the right bank of the Lenheiros River.

Gien is a small city on the banks of the Loire river. It is a city full of history (see history of Joan of Arc, for example) and is well known for its great castle and beautifully decorated pottery and ceramics. The massive stone bridge has 12 spans and dates from 1734. It rises slightly toward the center and is seen at high water in the stamp of 1973, at low water in the stamp of 2003 and at very low water in the photograph.

Kris Rascher,

Hi, Jose, Does your long Rio bridge have a pedestrian path? K
No. The Rio-Niteroi bridge is just for cars.

Hi, Jose, Does the Lenheiros carry more water than in your photograph, where it looks more like a brook? K.
At the time of the construction of the bridge was a river today is really a small brook

The Pont George V in Orleans has 9 spans of stone and was opened for traffic in the early 1760s. It was restored after damage in WWII. The cathedral is seen in the stamp issued for the meeting of philatelists in 1995. I found an old sketch from 1755 showing how wooden arches supported the masonry during construction.

(Hi, Jose, Thanks for the info! Your Oliveira bridge is really spectacular. K.)

The stamp for the international congress of communications in Paris in 1949 has already been posted on page 6. Here is the commemorative reprint honoring Gandon (2015). The Pont Alexander III is one of the most beautiful Paris bridges.
