Hello!
I'm new to the SC forums, but am a member on coincommunity. I haven't collected stamps since I was in elementary school so I am certainly not up to speed on them. I just acquired an extensive stamp collection and know when something has some potential value.

In this collection was a world collection book that was dated on the inside to 1930. So, most of the stamps are from the 19th century and early 20th.

I was browsing ebay quickly to see if any of them are quite valuable, but to be honest it was very overwhelming. I did notice that collectors are paying some good money for Russian stamps so I was curious to know if the ones I have might be good.

Can anyone help me determine if any of these 19th century or early 20th century Russian stamps are good?

Thanks so much and Merry Christmas!

Mike

Welcome mmerc20
I spend some time looking in my Scott 2007 for your old Russian stamps. I tried hard but couldn't find any stamps that worth more than a few dollars and allot worth less than a buck. Among the oldest one, a mint copy would have had a much higher value. Daniel

I know nothing about Russia, but I just wanted to say welcome to SCF.

While you're waiting for an answer, please jump over to the Introductions forum and post a message there -- it will give everyone a chance to "meet" you and learn more about your collecting interests.

There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here -- including some other Russia collectors.

So, from a fellow North Carolinian,

I will have to get over there today and say hello to everyone. I would love to keep this collection, but another hobby might make my wife try to kill me. I just really want to do my research on these before I eventually sell. I would get a Scotts book from the library, but I think it's a reference only book so I would have to bring the stamps there to look them up.
The whole collection is like the Russian stamps. Most every country has a handful of 19th and early 20th century pieces. I do have about 5 or 6 British penny reds in the UK grouping along with a ton of US stuff. Someone added some other things later on and there is another binder of 1940s era US uncut sheets.

Welcome to SCF mmerc20

Usually when a stamp collector dies, there is a coloumn in most major stamp papers & magazines called "Closed Albums". However, should your wife succeed in killing you, we will call you "Cancelled" or "Struck out" - just kidding

All the best and hope that you make a lot of friends in here.
