I finally found the missing binders of my Grandpa's... along with a fairly intact "Jr Scott's" International that covers to about 1920.
I'm only getting comfortable with the US Classic Scott... so....
I'd be interested in a comprehensive international catalog title or web-site to use for ID help and base values. Lots of these countries don't even exist any longer; BUT the stamps are really nice!
I use Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue. I bought a 6-volume set this year for around $65 (much of that was shipping expense). As a general resource for identifying and valuing stamps it is useful.
Scott 1840-1940 Classic Specialized Catalog (it actually also covers British Commonwealth pre-QEII, i.e. <1953). It is also sometimes referred to as the Scott Classic catalog. The 1999 version is dirt cheap, but it is not in color and is primarily handy rather than providing much additional information. I would not get one older than 2004, but they will not be cheap. For example, a brand new current edition easily runs $100+.
On a side note, the US Specialized should no longer be referred to as US Classic Specialized. That tends to cause confusion between the US Specialized catalog and the worldwide Classic catalog. Just call it the Scott US Specialized -- my opinion.
I can "lend" you my 2004 Scott Classic for the cost of shipping. After you've had time to play around with it, you can either buy it from me or mail it back. It is a hardback and the stamps are ~90+% in color. Email me if you are interested.
