I have inherited a stamp collection, and am currently researching the collection to ensure I do not unintentionally damage anything valuable, so all information gratefully received.

Thanks for any info and advise,

Jo

Jo-

If the Jubilee booklet has all the stamps, that is a very nice piece. I can't say what they actually sell for, but sellers ask quite a bit for them.

The Empire Exhibition block is also pretty neat, but a block of 8 is a lot for many buyers to swallow. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't do anything to it right now, but in the back of my mind I'd always be picturing two blocks of four.

I don't have a catalogue handy to look up the Soviets, so I won't say anything, lest I guess wrong.

Thanks for sharing.

Collin

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your time and speedy reply.

The booklet is in excellent condition, It still has all 20 x 1 1/2d stamps and ix intact apart from 2 x 1/2d and 2 x 1d stamps which sadly have been used, so probably not nearly so valuable ?
You think I should separate the stamps into sets of 4 ?
Any tips on storage? No idea how best to keep them in tip top condition. I brought them down from my loft and it seems a little humid up there. Is this a good thing?

Warmest seasonal greeting to you all,

Jo

The booklet is BK24 in Scott. In 2007 catalogue the value is $100.00. That is if it's complete.

I would not make any changes right away. I'd figure out what you have, and start to get a feel about caring for them. Excess humidity is to be avoided...mint stamps don't like it one bit.

If there is a stamp shop that you pass in your travels, you could stop in and get a few basic storage pieces so that everything is protected while you sort. Any shop worth its salt will have several options, most of which are inexpensive.

If this is representative of the kind of material you have, then it will be worth your time to do a little investigation. (To say nothing of the enjoyment that comes from it.)

Hi Jo
Some info on your Russians, from my old Stanley Gibbons catalogue.
So, reading from the top:-
The three aircraft stamps are SG 1123, 1129 and 1163 (left to right), the first two are 1945 and the third is 1946, basic stamps currently catalogue at £1, £1 and 60p respectively.
The three red arms type are SG1329a from 1947, catalogue at 35p each.
The green "farm girl" is SG1361j from 1948, catalogue val 10p.
The twin portrait is SG2078 from 1957, cat val 30p, and the last one is from 1889 as far as I can tell, if so it is SG54, again cat val 10p. Please bear in mind my catalogue is a "simplified", so has no info on varieties etc, the stamps would need careful study and a detailed catalogue to be 100% sure of value.
All I can say is that the three aircraft stamps are very nice, from a personal point of view!
Hope this is of some help,
DavidR
