At the end of WWI, food in Malta became very scarce and the few importers and farmers still in business made their families' fortunes by increasing the price of everything they still had in stock to a point where most Maltese could not even afford bread.
The Maltese were promised by the Sec. of State for the Colonies that the new Governor, Lord Plummer "would study the situation and report to London".
This did not satisfy the starving population and on June 7, 1919 there was an uprising and English soldiers still stationed on the Island were called to the capital where they killed four Maltese.
Since then June 7, has been a national holiday. OK, now back to stamps.
My Scott 2005 shows the date as June 17 instead of June 7.
Am I missing something here or is it just a typo?
Could someone with a more recent Scott please take a look and let me know if it has been changed since 2005?
Thanks in advance.
