The Songkran festival is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day from April 13 to 15. Nowadays, the most notable activity during Songkran is the throwing of water at other people in a spirit of fun. The water is meant as a symbol of washing all of the bad away and is sometimes filled with fragrant herbs. Here is an image of a stamp depicting two female Songkran revelers throwing water, printed by photogravure, and issued by Thailand on November 23, 1969, Scott No. 541.
