I stand atop Mount Machin and gaze at the slope below. I am eagerly awaiting a bag of freebies and keeping my eye on a local auction.

I view this as follows:

I have a bunch of these from lots that I have bought and have not sorted them, not being my main area of interest. But now, as my Canal Zone collection is getting to the point where all I need are the really top-dollar items, I am thinking of those cheap and free piles of worldwide definitives I see and thinking, "How much fun would it be to sort those!" Machins, Sowers, Netherlands Queen Julianas, those really ugly pink Belgian and Spanish stamps -- who thought those boring definitives would be so much fun to dive into!

US precancels are in the next mountain range over. I break into a cold sweat just thinking about them.

You are !

When you sort the Machins, go for the concise list to begin. Lots of fun.
If you have gaps, let me know.

Having recently sorted my own Machins I can only say - good luck! What a job! I got hold of a concise catalogue just for that, never realised there were so many variations. And as for the sowers, I haven't got round to that yet, will need a decent French book for those too I suppose........
Another good one I keep putting off is the Argentine 1911 "Ploughman" series - oh and the 1923 "San Martin" (with and without "stop"). Not enough hours in the weekend!
