Any information on this Russian revenue? Year, purpose, etc., would be great. The closest I've been able to come is a possible year of 1875.

Hi Collin,

This is a general revenue.

The section at the bottom has horizontal lines and the ribbon attached to the crown points downwards at the ends so it's the 1888 issue, #10 in Rodney's listing (which I assume is from the Forbin catalogue).

The watermark should be hexagons, either aligned vertically or vertically though Forbin doesn't distinguish these on this issue.

Barefoot (2004) dates the issue as 1887 and gives it the number #10A for the vertical hexagons (price 10p) or #10B horizontal hexagons (price £50).

Thanks much, guys. I'm assuming that I have the 10p version, but I suppose it can't hurt to check it out later, if I think of it.

I must say that it is a very striking stamp, in person. Considering that the others from that issue have variations in frame designs, I believe I'll have to go looking for a few more.

This old thread is just as good a place as any to see if someone can help identify this one:

I'm not spotting it in Forbin. Anyone?

Hi Cjd,

This one is listed in Barefoot as a Court Delivery Fee stamp from 1912.

According to the catalogue the paper should be pale salmon in colour and the security underprint should be in red (although I can't see either of these colours in the scan).

I don't see it in Forbin either so I guess news of this hadn't reached Monsieur Forbin in time for publication in 1915.

There is a bit of red to the underprint, but I don't think I would have gone with pale salmon for the paper.

Thanks for the i.d. I love the imperial Russian revenues.
