Argentina 1936 5 Peso Color Missing?

Hi All,

Was cataloging a stock sheet of older Argentina for some trades and something caught my eye about these. One looks like it is missing the darker shade of green.
Year 1936 5 Peso, Scott # 448, Iguaca Falls (A148)
I did not see anything about an error of a missing color in my 2000 Scott Vol 1 (A&B countries) so checked my 2000 Classic Specialized, still no mention of a color missing error.

I'd like your opinions please.

There was a link IIRC detailing the
varieties of this issue, but I cannot locate it.
I can find the Official overprint link
and they do not mention colour varieties.

I think I remember green inks being ones that would either be washed off easily or be subject to sunlight more easily. ??

I've seen this stamp many times and I thought it was just a nice picture of a palm tree. I never noticed the waterfalls before (or the inscription)!

Thanks for the inputs...

I had thought of a color changling too, but to my eye it looks like there are two layers of green ink. And then the blue ink layer on top of both of those. The bottom layer being lighter green and the top green layer being darker green. To me it looks like the top layer of the darker green is missing. I supose it could be a case of the top layer of darker green being rubed/washe/worn off. But the top most layer of blue does not seem to be disturbed/worn/rubbed. So that leaves just a wash off of this particular color only. Possible, but I think unlikely. I think I'll stick with the color missing theory for now. It would be interesting to see if anyoene out there has copies of this stamps and what theirs look like.

Dave, Wow, that is a faded copy...i checked my 1 copy of the 5 peso..the colors are darker on mine than on your "normal" copy..especially the blue is very dark..there is a Argentina thread on the bidstart forum..you might ask over there..cheers, phil

Here is a large image of the 1935-51 5 Pesos value. This beautiful stamp received extensive usage for close to 20 years, and is found in several distinctive printings, with some printings having very interesting color varieties. The 5 Pesos value is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful stamps of the 20th century.

Thank You Guys...i have all kind of Argentine packet material but only one of the 5 peso palm tree ! I shall look for them in Charleston...i have been looking on other forums and find that Argentina can be difficult...even the experts seem stumped on some of the printings..well I am getting my feet wet slowly...i already have a decent collection of older Argentine postcards..postally used and a book of covers from the Argentine Antarctic..if I could find a zep or two that would be nice..but I have to test the market !

Folks,

Both stamps are perfectly normal as far as the color is concerned. The stamp on the right looks like is a rare doubled background variety. I have shown this variety here:

Scan of the back of the stamp on the right would be useful for watermark, looks like the 1951 printing on ribbed paper but I am not sure.

Stamp on the left has larger RA and is what I call the 1L2, one of the more common late printings. The yellow is very faint but if you invert the image in photoshop at very high resolution (1200 or 2400 dpi) you will likely see the dots are all there.

Hello Rubiera, when I started collecting Guatemala I found a Guatemala stamp society with a magazine in English and they also published several specialty books on the stamps of Guatemala...i am now working with Argentina..a much larger country with literate people and I am having a hard time finding English language books dealing with collecting Argentina..any suggestions ?? phil
