Found this nice, I think, little collection of early Irish stamps... c 1920s.

I Know little. But I need a reminder about "discovering watermarks" I scanned the back of what I think might be the best of the selection, but I don't see watermark. only bleed thru of cancel and hinge marks.

What am I doing wrong?

The block of 4 is Scott 65 (wmk 44) 2nd batch 1p & 3p are Scott 66, 70 (Date cancel) first stamp J2, 2p O'Connell Scott 80. Remainder are Scott 65-76 (wmk 44) or Scott 106-117 (wmk 262)
Edit: Watermarks on stamps of Ireland are normally easily detected with watermark fluid (most British Empire stamps are also easily detected).

Ok... and while I"ve not edited my profile, I can see, I want more international embossed, cut corners. I like them. There is a strong pre-cancel community here, and I'm learning lots... but I need similar input for cut corners. Please. Thanks.

When you've located the watermark on the overprinted 2d orange, check for its orientation. There is a watermark inverted and reversed which Gibbons prices at £150 used (against 50p for the normal).

In fact, check the positions of all the watermarks. There are expensive watermark errors known for just about all your stamps!

Your Irish stamps are interesting!

This block of 4 needs cleansing and then you may get better results with scannin.

The linenbinding wire marking is pretty good!

Try looking for the watermarks by placing the stamp on black paper and putting it under a strong light. It might help it show up better. There are two watermarks from the 1920-1940 time period. Sometimes you will find them inverted or reversed. They are used to sort the basic stamps before you get into other issues like color shades.
