I am still new and figuring out postmarks and their meanings, I think post mark is New Ross, but I don't know what the F G or other letters there are.The date is inverted reversed inside out and mirror imaged (i.e. I can't see what they are doing) and the year appears to be 03. I am most intrigued by the F G and other letters in that line and what they mean. Any help? - Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I'd never heard of New Ross before but I see it's in County Wexford in Ireland.

The date looks OK - I'd guess 28 January 1903. The "FG square P" is a coded time meaning 6.35 pm.

These coded times were used for a few years in the 1890s (and in some places like this into the 1900s).

Now how the heck was I supposed to know that FG squared P meant 6:35. That's a hoot! I always stop in New Ross on my way to get my Waterford crystal.
