Hi cdnum,

I'm afraid I don't understand your question.

This is El Salvador SG 723 / Scott #469.

This is a municipal tax stamp that was first overprinted "1919" and then surcharged "Correos / Un centavo" in 1920 (or 1921 depending upon which catalogue you believe) to make it valid for postage.

It is recess printed so it should not be flat to the touch.

Cdnum,

If you mean that the surcharge isn't level than I would agree but I think that's just done to careless typesetting. The catalogues mention that there lots of font errors but they don't list them.

Hi,

Sorry, i'm french. I don't speak/write english very well :)

I don't talk about surcharge.

This stamp have a look like 3D effect. Ink seem to be upper than paper (elevation... not flat)

Difficult to explain, sorry. More easy to see if you use Picasa zoom.

Thank you!

Hello CDNum,

Your English is very good (and very much better than my French!).

I think the 3D effect is real and is the result of the recess (engraved) method used to print the stamp. Recess stamps usually feel a little rough to the touch if you move your finger gently across the surface because of this.

I agree with Nigel,
a nice fresh recess engraved stamp is a joy,
you can really feel the printed image.
(Thereby prosecuting myself that I touch some stamps
with my fingers)
