Nells250 - Are you drooling over the cars, or over the stamps? Formula One: Here are images of a couple of stamps depicting classic single-seat racing cars, printed by lithography, and issued by Bulgaria on December 30, 1986, Scott Nos. 3225 & 3226. - nethryk 1936 Mercedes 1952 Ferrari |

Nells250 - The Lancia Stratos is a car made by Italian car manufacturer Lancia. It was a very successful rally car, winning the World Rally Championship in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a racing Lancia Stratos, designed and engraved by Georges Bétemps, and issued by Monaco on November 5, 1981 to publicize the 50th Monte Carlo Automobile Rally, held in 1982, Scott No. 1314, plus a photo of a street version of this speedy car. - nethryk |

Nells250- Thanks! Here's an image of another stamp depicting a two-seater rally sports car on the move, designed and engraved by Claude Haley, and issued for use in New Caledonia on December 26, 1968 to publicize the 2nd Safari calédonien, Scott No. 371. Perhaps someone knowledgeable about vintage Group 4 racing class cars would be kind enough to specify this car's make and model for us? - nethryk |

I am about 98% sure the car in the last post is a Ferrari 250LM, which I didn't think would ever participate in a rally, BUT I learn something new every day! |

lacchu1605 - Thanks! Nells250 - What a coincidence! I was 98% sure that you would be the first one to correctly identify the Ferrari. Here is an image of another auto rally stamp depicting a "mystery car." The car on the left is clearly a Turcat-Méry 45 Hp of 1911, which was driven by Henri Rougier, the winner of the first Monte Carlo Auto Rally (see photo below), but the one on the right is only listed in the catalogues as a "modern car." This stamp was designed by Bernard Minne, engraved by Roger Fenneteaux, and issued by Monaco on June 3, 1961 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Monte Carlo Rally, Scott No. 484. - nethryk Henri Rougier, his mechanic and the 45Hp Turcat-Méry prepare for the inaugural Monte Carlo rally |
