Nells250 - Yes, I suppose I can see the resemblance. But I cannot recall any car from that era that looked quite like the one pictured on the stamp. My guess is that this is simply an imaginary car intended to represent a Motor City auto from the late 1950s, back when tail fins were all the rage. Back to the races: Here is an image of a stamp depicting what appears to me to be a Ford Sierra Cosworth 4X4, designed and engraved by Claude Jumelet, and issued by Monaco on March 13, 1992 to commemorate the 60th Monte Carlo Rally, Scott No. 1805, plus a photo of an example of this car model. - nethryk |

I suppose in regard to the Stude', they'd "tweek" the car a bit so that no one could complain about using the likeness of their car, BUT who knows??? |

I have spent many years loving 'orphan' and unusual cars but I do not recall ever seeing any car that looks exactly like the auto on the right. Personally I do not see a resemblance to any model Studebaker. The front end treatment does look similar to the blue 1954 Kaiser Darrin Roadster or the Buick LeSabre concept car (shown below). The roof line is very distinct and seems to be that of the Citroen DS. Don |

Antony Noghès (1890-1978) was a Monégasque government official who founded the Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, and was also associated with the founding of the Rallye Monte-Carlo in 1911. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Noghès and a depiction of a race car which appears to be a 1950 Ferrari 275 F1, designed and engraved by Jacky Larrivière, and issued by Monaco on March 15, 1990 to commemorate Antony Noghès's birth centenary, Scott No. 1712, plus an image of one of these Ferrari Formula One cars. - nethryk |

The Mille Miglia ("Thousand Miles") was an open-road endurance race which took place in Italy twenty-four times from 1927 to 1957. Here is an image of a stamp depicting racing touring cars, designed by Italian illustrator Vittorio Grassi (1878-1958), printed by photogravure, and issued by Italy on April 24, 1953 to publicize the 20th edition of the Mille Miglia. - nethryk |
