Hello,
I've registered here especially to correct an info, that American car Bantam BRC-40 served as a prototype for GAZ-67b :) In fact, GAZ-64 (a predecessor of GAZ-67) was developed in a spring of 1941, only by looking at Bantam's photos in American press :) The Russians had no access to newest American cars at that time. The car was indeed externally similar, with a short wheelbase and side openings, but it had nothing in common with Bantam and used mechanical parts and 4x4 drive from GAZ-61 off-road limousine. One of major differences was a longer frame and a front suspension on full-length semi-elliptical springs in Bantam (and its offspring Willys MB), and on double quarter-springs in GAZ-64.
Maybe I'll scan some stamps, if I'm here?...

Henri Louis Rougier (1876-1956) was a French sportsman who is perhaps best remembered for his victory in the inaugural Monte Carlo Rally when he drove his Turcat-Méry from Paris to Monte Carlo. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Rougier with the winning car, designed and engraved by Georges Bétemps, and issued by Monaco on May 22, 1986 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Monte Carlo Rally, Scott No. 1542. - nethryk |

Happy Birthday to Ayrton Senna da Silva (1960-1994), a Brazilian racing driver who won three Formula One world championships. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Ayrton Senna, and also depicting his Formula One racing car and a view of the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, designed and engraved by Martin Mörck, and issued by Monaco on December 4, 2009 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Senna's birth, Scott No. 2568, plus a photo of Senna driving the McLaren MP4/6 in which he won the 1991 United States Grand Prix. Ayrton Senna was mortally injured in a crash during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. - nethryk PS Here is a YouTube link to a trailer for Ron Howard's superb movie Rush (2013), which is based upon the real-life personal rivalry between 1970s-era Formula One champions Niki Lauda and James Hunt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB7AvP1gVVk See it! (even if you are not a Formula One racing fan) - nethryk |
