Nells, here is another one from the Austrian Auto series. The Porsche 356 Nr. 1 Roadster was the first car produced by Ferdinand Porsche's son Ferry Porsche in 1948 post war Austria. The factory at Gmünd was using various Volkswagen parts and aluminum from abandoned WWII planes and was only able to roll out maximum 5 cars per month. |

In the 1895 Paris-Bordeaux-Paris road race, brothers André and Édouard Michelin entered and drove L'Éclair, built with a Peugeot chassis and a Daimler motor, as the first automobile equipped with pneumatic tires. The Michelins may not have won the race, but they definitely created a LOT of interest in their novel product! Here is an image of a stamp depicting L'Éclair, designed and engraved by Claude Andréotto, and issued by Monaco on October 24, 1995 to commemorate the centenary of the first pneumatic automobile tires, Scott No. 1985, plus an image of the Michelin advertising poster for the race. - nethryk |
