Gland : The western tip of Switzerland, in the Canton of Vaud. Gland means "Acorn" and accordingly the coat of arms is a chestnut tree. A pretty young thing from Vaud |

Here's a registered cover from Tyumen to Tobolsk (both in south west Siberia). The Russian registration label has a Cyrillic capital Z (for "Zakaznoe" meaning "Registered"). |

Quote: Gland means "Acorn" and accordingly the coat of arms is a chestnut tree Is this one of those "two countries separated by a common language" things? I agree that the Vaud lass is easy on the eyes, and probably was responsible for many an overactive Gland. |

Very amusing Cj, a good morning chuckle. Nigel, a new one for me, I thought I had seen every type of reg label going. I wonder if Zakasnoe is in askphil image purloined for my records. I once suggested that a particular label was a countries "first" which belonged to the Canton of Geneva. Another suggested it was not, because it was a canton and not a country. Can a country claim bragging rights from its canton? Opinions? |

Here's something a little different... This card also shows the Russian Z but this time in a registration handstamp rather than a printed label. This card has a local stamp from the time of the German occupation of Pskov in Russia (called "Pleskau" in German). |

Very nice Nigel. (Any idea what that card is for?) Do I spot an asking price $55 on that card Can there be any more romantic looking places than Pskov? (this building is the one represented on your local stamp) Some more local stamps from Pskov |

Hi Rodney, Arbeitsamt is German for "Labour Office" and I think it's an order to attend the office which has grim implications. I do like your zemstvos - especially the multicoloured one! |

Great labels and great info everyone. There is so much to collect and not enough time to collect it in ! Here are three labels from Egypt. The first is inscribed O.H.M.S [On His Majesty's Service]and was in use up to 1922. The other two labels are inscribed O.H.E.M.S. [On His Exhaulted Majesty's Service] and were used after Egypt was declared an Independent Kingdom on March 15th ,1922. Londonbus1 |
