I have been running across Machins with little gray "bits" seemingly attached to them.
Could someone tell me if they wash off or can be scraped off and where they come from?

Thanks in advance!

I've seen this on a few canadian stamps as well. My assumption was a phosphorus type cancel that could easily be detected but I may be wrong.
