Here is an image of another stamp honoring Jean-François Champollion (1790-1832), designed and engraved by Claude Durrens, and issued by France on October 14, 1972 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Champollion's deciphering of Egyptian heiroglyphs, Scott No. 1354, Y&T No. 1734. Note: The design on this stamp includes the key inscription on the Rosetta Stone: Ton édifice est durable comme le ciel ("Your building is as durable as the sky").

Three pyramids at Giza



  • The smalest pyramid with originally high of 66 metres was built for Menkaure (Greek: Mykerinus), the fifth king of the 4th dynasty.
  • The middle pyramid was built for Khafre (Greek: Chephren), the fourth of the eight kings of the 4th dynasty. It was originally 143 metres high.
  • The northernmost, the oldest and the largest pyramid was built for Khufu (Greek: Cheops), the second king of the 4th dynasty. Its original height being 147 metres.
Above the pictures of pyramids are sculptures of pharaons. Above Khufu pyramid is the only known depiction of pharaon Khufu, a small statue of 9 cm.

In ancient times the pyramids were included among the Seven Wonders of the World.

The pharaons of 18th dynasty



Hatshepsut the fifth pharaoh of the 18th dynasty ruled 1479-1458 BC.
She reigned longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty.
She is also known as the first great woman in history of whom we are informed.



Thutmose III the the sixth pharaoh of Egypt`s 18th dynasty ruled 1479-1425 BC.
He succeeded to the throne after his father died, but for the first 20 years of his reign,
he shared power with his aunt Hatshepsut. He is regarded as the greatest of the rulers of ancient Egypt



Amenhotep III the ninth pharaoh of 18th dynasty ruled 1390-1352 BC.
His reign was a period of unprecedented prosperity and artistic splendour, when Egypt reached the peak of her artistic and international power.

Narmer Palette



King Narmer is thought to have reigned c. 3150 BCE as first king of the 1st dynasty. The palette of king containing some of the earliest hieroglyphic inscriptions ever found. Palettes were typically used for grinding cosmetics, but this palette is too large and heavy to have been created for personal use and was probably a ritual or votive object.

The pharaohs of 12th and 13th dynasty



Senusret I (Sesostris I), ruled during the Middle Period 1971-1926 BC, the second pharaoh of 12th dynasty
was one of the most powerful kings of this Dynasty



Amenemhat III (Amenemhet III), 12th dynasty, ruled 1860-1814 BC
He built his first pyramid at Dahshur the so-called Black Pyramid.
Later he build a new burial pyramid at Hawara.



Hor the king of 13th Dynasty reigned only for a short time (1760 BC), not long enough to prepare a pyramid.
His shaft tomb was found at Dahshur next to the pyramid of king Amenemhat III.

Djoser - pharaoh of the 3rd dynasty

Djoser (ruled 2667-2648 BC) was buried in his famous step pyramid at Saqqara.
On stamp is the painted limestone statue of Djoser, the oldest known life-sized Egyptian statue.
One of the most famous contemporaries of king Djoser was his vizir, head of the royal shipyard and overseer of all stone works, Imhotep. Imhotep supervised the building constructions of step pyramid.

Micha#322; Tyszkiewicz (1828–1897) was a Polish collector of antiques and amateur Egyptologist, member of the once powerful Tyszkiewicz noble family.

He excavated at Luxor in 1861-1862 and revisited Egypt in 1867-1868, building up a collection during his travels. It is now split between Paris, London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Boston, Rome, and the Tyszkiewicz Palace at Lahojsk, Belarus. A small part of it remains in Poland in the National Museum in Warsaw.

Khefren pharaoh of 4th dynasty



Khefren (also Khafre, Chephren) was the fourth Egyptian pharaoh of 4th dynasty during the Old Kingdom.
He ruled from 2558 to 2532 BC and was the son of Khufu and the throne successor of Djedefre his brother.
Khefren built the second largest pyramid at Giza, originally it was 143 meters height.

Apofis I pharaoh of the 15th dynasty

Apofis I (also Apepi) was a ruler of Lower Egypt of the fifteenth dynasty so called Hyksos dynasty.
He ruled from 1575 - 1540 BC (around).
The canopic jar of this king was found in Granada, Spain.

Museo delle Antichita Egizie - Egyptian Museum in Torino, Italy

The Museo delle Antichita Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture.
It was formally founded in 1824 with the acquisition by King Carlo Felice of a large collection.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting an archaeologist, a military officer, and diggers near the Pyramids of Giza, designed and engraved by Albert Decaris, and issued by France on November 11, 1972 to commemorate the French Expedition to Egypt under Napoleon Bonaparte, 1798-1801, Scott No. 1353, Y&T No. 1731.

Alabaster canopic jar


.......................................... joint issue: Slovakia - Egypt

The original owner of canopic jar was a man named Kenamon, and he was a King`s scribe.
He lived approximately in the period of the New Kingdom in time of 18th or the 19th Dynasty BC.
The jar is one of four from Collection of the Archaeological Museum of the Slovak National Museum in Bratislava.

As an aside, the Great Pyramid was the tallest structure on the planet until the construction of the Eiffel Tower
