Literary Stamp Collecting

This 2003 Spanish stamp commemorates the birth centenary of writer Max Aub. Aub emigrated from Europe to Mexico in 1940 during the Franco regime.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced," and "the father of American literature". His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is an 1876 novel by Mark Twain about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. In the novel Tom Sawyer has several adventures, often with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Originally a commercial failure, the book ended up being the best selling of any of Twain's works during his lifetime. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel by Mark Twain. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, the narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective) and a friend of Tom Sawyer. Katherine Anne Porter (1890 – 1980) was an American writer. She became an elected member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1943 and taught at several universities between 1948 and 1958. She received Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Award (1966) for her book The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter. Her 1962 novel Ship of Fools was the best-selling novel in America that year.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 – 1882) was an American poet. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896 – 1953) was an American author who lived in rural Florida and wrote novels with rural themes and settings. Her best known work, The Yearling, about a boy who adopts an orphaned fawn, won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939 and was later made into a movie of the same name. Some of her other work include Cross Creek, Jacob's Ladder, The Secret River.

Literary critics believe his work helped change race relations in the United States in the mid-20th century. His notable works include Uncle Tom's Children, Native Son, Black Boy, The Outsider, and The Color Curtain.

He was a part of the transition between transcendentalism and realism and is often called the father of free verse.

Ivan Andreyevich Krylov (1769 – 1844) was a Russian writer who have written many fables. This set was issued by the USSR in 1944 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death:

Jose Protacio Rizal (1861-1896) was a Filipino nationalist, novelist, poet, ophthalmologist, journalist, and revolutionary. He was executed on December 30, 1896 by a squad of Filipino soldiers of the Spanish Army. The first illustrated Rizal children's book is "The Tale of the Tortoise and the Monkey". This stamp, issued by Philippines in 1984, show Rizal and illustrations from the book. It issued in SS:

Sally Salminen (1906-1976) was an internationally renowned author from Vargata. The prolific writer is best known for her novel Katrina (1936) which has been translated into more than twenty languages. Her other notable works include Nya land (1945), Prins Efflam (1953) and Vid Havet (1963).

Spain 2022 Authors
Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920) was a leading literary figure in 19th-century Spain. Some scholars consider him second only to Miguel de Cervantes in stature as a Spanish novelist. His best known work is Fortunata y Jacinta (1886–87). His other notable works include Doña Perfecta (1876) and Marianela (1878).
