This 2003 Spanish stamp commemorates the birth centenary of writer Max Aub. Aub emigrated from Europe to Mexico in 1940 during the Franco regime. From Wikipedia, "Max Aub Mohrenwitz (June 2, 2903 Paris - July 22, 1972 Mexico City) was a Mexican-Spanish experimental novelist, playwright and literary critic. In 1965 he founded the literary periodical Los Sesenta (The Sixties) with editors that included the poets Jorge Guillen and Rafael Alberti...In 1972 he was elected Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Government."  |

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced," and "the father of American literature". His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Here is a stamp shows Clemens issued by the USA in 1940:  The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is an 1876 novel by Mark Twain about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. In the novel Tom Sawyer has several adventures, often with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Originally a commercial failure, the book ended up being the best selling of any of Twain's works during his lifetime. Here is a stamp issued by the USA on October 13, 1972 shows Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence:  The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel by Mark Twain. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, the narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective) and a friend of Tom Sawyer. US 2006 Literary Art Katherine Anne Porter (1890 – 1980) was an American writer. She became an elected member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1943 and taught at several universities between 1948 and 1958. She received Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Award (1966) for her book The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter. Her 1962 novel Ship of Fools was the best-selling novel in America that year.  |

US 2008 Literary Art Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896 – 1953) was an American author who lived in rural Florida and wrote novels with rural themes and settings. Her best known work, The Yearling, about a boy who adopts an orphaned fawn, won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939 and was later made into a movie of the same name. Some of her other work include Cross Creek, Jacob's Ladder, The Secret River.  |

Literary critics believe his work helped change race relations in the United States in the mid-20th century.
