Thanks lithograving. When I first saw your name, here, I thought you were going to correct me on my explanation of the printing process used.

A dealer friend offered the lot to me sight-unseen a few weeks ago. At first I thought I had overpaid, not finding them listed that way in in Scott but only as complete booklet panes. But with the information PMGS is giving me from the Michel Catalog, maybe I didn't do too badly after all.

Yes I noticed those high catalogue values on many of them.

They appear to be quite desirable by German collectors.
I'm sure you got a good deal.

Since the scans are becoming separated by posts and growing in number, lets identify this one as Page 8 -- the stamps are all used.

Since there is likely to be a difference in catalog value between mint never hinged (MNH) and mint hinged (MH), I've sorted the mint stamps out on that basis. The stamps in this post are all MNH.

OK, Larry. I got them all IDed. But before I post the results, care to take a guess at the estimated Michel catalog value of the last three sets posted (the Hindenburgs from the previous page, and the two posts from this page)?

I wouldn't have a clue. But you make it sound like it could be pretty good. Sure hope it is!

Hindenburgs

Notes for all -- In its Markenheftchen Katalog, Michel lists vertical (S) and horizontal (W) pairs/trios, and tκte-bκche margin pairs (KZ), but not blocks. Therefore, for blocks I've given the prices for the individual single/pairs/trios. If there are multiples in a block [denoted (x2)], the prices are per single since that's how Michel lists them. It also gives prices for used and on cover, but not on piece. It also does not assign a specific premium for special cancels.

If my math's right, that's about US$750 of catalog value, without accounting for any premium for blocks larger than Michel lists, and any additional value for the particular cancels.

Wow, that's outstanding. Thank you!

When they first arrived and I saw that Scott did not list them other than as complete booklet panes, I figured I'd just have to eat my mistake and see if I could get my money out of them, and even that didn't look good. Now they are looking a 'whole lot' better. I'll have to check those watermarks.

Is there a difference in value given for mint hinged and mint never hinged? I still have some of the latter to scan. Also, I remembered another group of these that came in a mixed lot a few years ago and have dug them up. Will have to see if there are any among them that differ from what is already here.

Have gotten the rest of these sorted. This first group consists of mint hinged material (except for the very last two pairs -- see note below). Unfortunately, some bad old hinges had been used on some and have stained right through the stamps.

The last von Hindenburg pair (bottom row) is MNH. The building next to it is mint, no gum.

The following are all used. They are from another lot I purchased a while ago. Have checked them against the used items previously posted and these appear to be different stamps or in different combinations.

Out of curiosity, what does all the old style imperative German script mean?

Beautiful collection!
