The Junkers Ju 52 (nicknamed Tante Ju ("Auntie Ju") and Iron Annie) was a German trimotor transport aircraft manufactured from 1932 to 1945. It saw both civilian and military service during the 1930s and 1940s. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Junkers Ju 52 being used as a mail plane, designed by Swedish graphic artist Signe "Ham" Hammarsten-Jansson (1882-1970), printed by photogravure, and issued by Finland on September 6, 1938 as one of a set of four stamps commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Finnish Postal System, Scott No. 217, plus a photo of one of these airplanes.

I am new to this forum and have been through posted items. Fascinating posts there. I am a thematic aircraft on stamps collector as well as a model builder. I will begin with a post depicting model aircraft on stamps. When I get access to a scanner I will post other items from my collection trying not to duplicate.

teals1 - Welcome to SCF! Aircraft make great subjects for postage stamp designs. I especially like biplanes. Be sure to check out the military aircraft thread, too.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Pomilio PC 1 biplane and a 1917 postmark, printed by photogravure, and issued by Italy on July 18, 1967 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of airmail service in Italy, Scott No. 968, plus a photo of the military version of this aircraft, the Pomilio PE, a First World War Italian armed reconnaissance biplane.

teals1 - Thanks!

Juan de la Cierva y Codorníu (1895-1936) was a Spanish civil engineer, pilot and aeronautical engineer. His most famous accomplishment was the invention in 1920 of the Autogiro, a single-rotor type of aircraft with an articulated rotor, resulting in the world's first successful flight of a stable rotary-wing aircraft in 1923, and the precursor to helicopters. Here is an image of an airmail stamp featuring a portrait of Juan de la Cierva and depicting his Autogiro in flight over Madrid, printed by lithography (B. Fournier, Burgos), and issued by Spain in January 1939 as one of a set of seven similarly designed stamps honoring the aviation pioneer, plus a photo of an Autogiro in flight in 1925.

I don't think these have been posted on this thread before but as I'm an occasional visitor please forgive me if I'm duplicating another post.

Issued in 2012 by Greenland and designed by Martin Mörck

Kurt, I do not know myself. Your question would recieve more attention if you started a new Topic under Main stamp collecting. Everyone would see it then.

Great topic! I would have loved to have flown on the Graf Zeppelin, but it was retired and scrapped before I was born. I do have these though.

I did however spend 45 minutes on the airship Eureka when it came to Seattle in 2010. Alas, the zeppelin nt company in the US went broke last year. Here is a pic of it coming in for a landing at Paine field.
