Anthony: I too want to thank you for resurrecting the thread. Great scans of the Falkland Island items. Although I only flew in it once the The Tri-star was my favourite large passenger plane and the Herc is still a workhorse. |

Timbres667 - thanks for putting on the image of the CL-44. It has a Canadian connection in that it was designed and built by Canadair in Montreal based on the the old Britannia aircraft. It was built specifically for the Royal Canadian Air Force, who referred to it as the "Yukon". A few were built for Iceland's airline and I think a couple for The Flying Tigers organization. Iceland's airline used the plane for many years on their New York to Reykjavik route.
I flew across the Atlantic in it a few times. It was a great aircraft. The Tyne-driven turbo-props just sang. The plane had a limited production as it got caught in the introduction of pure jets such as the DC8 and the Boeing707. I'm doing this from memory but know that there is a lot of interesting stuff on the web re the plane (e.g., Wiki, RCAF, etc).
A reminder for plane enthusiasts, at least in Canada, that the new season for Ice Pilots starts tomorrow night on Canada's History channel and old episodes can be seen on YouTube. I don't think it was available on the US History Channel last year and I think even the YouTube offerings were blocked. Worth looking into though. |

Rod, funny you should show a picture like that. back in college I got a chance to tour a heavy maintenance facility. at these facilities they remove the entire interior and replace it in less then a week. at the time it was strictly off limits but they took us thru walked our group thru the inside of a completely internally gutted DC-9 we walked on planks of wood. being so absorbed in the coolness of it all I accidently kicked a screwdriver into the bowels of the plane. I suspect to this date there is a mystery rattle in a USAir DC-9. about 2/3's of the way back.
this thread is killing me I have almost none of these. |

Sorry, no back story on this and it's a post card, not a stamp - but thought you might be interested in seeing it anyway. |
