Beauty? Heck no. It's thinned and stained. I'll admit that the color shade is attractive, but I would definitely hold out for a decent example. |

I like it, despite the faults. I wonder how many exist. Do you recognize the signature on the back?
I don't recall seeing any at auction, but I have not been looking out for them. |

I guess Beauty is sort of a subjective term but I am in love with it. Granted, I could do w/o the stains and blems but I have only ever seen 2 in my life! I did end up buying a #71P though today. lol Glad you got to see one t360! I would also be curious as to how many still exist as well? |

That red line is because it was a presentation specimen. I posted a link to another example earlier in this thread bfranton.
EDIT: Correction: It was posted in the other huge Blackjack thread. I apologize for the confusion bfranton.

So I am very happy to have such a nice example. Naive question. Does it change the value any? |

Here is a Black Jack (#73) on a 24c rate transatlantic cover along with four 3c Washingtons (#65s) and a 10c Washington (#68), all tied by fancy black grid cancels. It was sent on January 5th, 1865 from Mill Town, Maine to Bradford, Yorkshire, England. The docketing says "By way of Portland mail." It traveled from Maine to Boston, as shown by a red transit marking (Paid 3, Jan. 7th). The black receiving mark on back shows it arrived at Bradford, England on Jan. 20, 1865. The addressee was a blacksmith and an inventor. CHRONOLOGICAL INDEX OF PATENTS APPLIED FOR AND PATENTS GRANTED, For the Year 1863. 35. Henry Blacktin, of Bradford, in the County of York, Saw Maker and Ironmonger, for an invention for — " Improvements in means or apparatus for saving or preserving money, papers or other valuable property at sea in case of shipwreck." — A communication to him from abroad by Charles Blacktin, of Mill Town. |
