Here's what I found in the back of one of the albums labeled France I and France II. I don't know much about the stamps of France and her colonies, but looks like I could learn a bit going through these stock pages. There were several more, but these caught my eye (Resolution not too good since I scanned the whole page to give an idea of the scope of the job ahead): This one for sure calls for a cold, snowy day with a pile of stock pages and a catalog - - - ahhhh

France is one of my favourites. Looks like you have some beauties there - hope you will share some more pics when you have had a chance for a sort. |

Thanks for comments I will post more and I think there is a France III somewhere with semipostals. Yes, very lucky my grandpa was in the Great War in France as an artillery man, then later in the army of occupation in Germany, so these ended up to be two of his strongest collecting interests, especially Germany. Lots of home made pages, lots of quadrilled pages, lots of loose material, some bundleware, books & books of stamps individually hinged - EGAD where did he get the time to even get this much done? My mom says he was under doctor's orders to find a hobby that would help him deal with the stress of his job, fortunately for me he resumed his childhood hobby. Found these two (C1 and C2)in crinkly crystal mount, (both hinged) so they will go into some more modern mount soon. Mounted on pages by Thorp & Martin Co., Naribo copyright 1936. The mount for this other stamp, C27, is good, with a piece of black paper behind it marked $3.30. The tab is folded under on the left. This one goes into a Showgard NOW. I can't get enough of the fine engraving work. There is a thread on that - spent a lot of time admiring the many fine examples posted. How wonderful to see what people have and share. |

Very neat. I suppose there is not much risk in waiting another month or two, but... overlapping mint French colonies are notorious for sticking to each other, so I wouldn't wait through another change of seasons to separate them.
Have fun! |

Also, I wouldn't leave the tab folded under, a change of weather will have it attach to the back of the stamp. Uglyville...

Thanks cjd and Rod222 for your advice. I have unfolded the airmail tab and that went well. The colonies I will separate very soon rather than waiting for snow - looks like it'll be a brown Christmas here in Minneapolis. Stampgal and Dianne, maybe these would are of interest, one page looks like a minimum value stamp, but interesting ads. Are these from booklets? |

Now that little accumulation is a great winter project. There are a number of types of that stamp, primarily spotted with differences in the belt, and the tablet at the bottom. Two stamps that share the same ad might not be the same type. Lots to spend time with. I'm jealous. |

Hi 741, I'd be interested in swapping any dupes when you get to 50 posts.
Thanks

Hello 741... that's a great lot for sorting. I also collect France and have about couple of hundred dupes to exchange with anyone interested.

Thanks everyone for your comments, can't believe it's been over 3 years ago since I started this. A few serious things arose that interfered with this project, but they look to be resolved and am just now getting back to the France collection. I treated myself to a set of Palo premium hingeless pages for France, 1849 - 1960 along with a nice binder. THIS is one great album, it's has got to be top of the line or darn close. It's really a good feeling to get all these stamps out of their glassines, off stock pages, homemade album pages & old time album pages into one place - they look beautiful. Probably 750 stamps total to put in the new album, I certainly agree with the comment I saw here some time ago about the time-saving feature of going the hingeless route right from the get-go. Planning on ending the collection where my grandfather did in the year he died, 1951.
I'll be contacting the folks who indicated an interest in trading when I see what I've got for sure.
