Hi BWD, the mark on the reverse of your stamp is Stolow,a well known expertizer and if I'm not mistaken an auction firm. Hope this helps!

The J. H. STOLOW mark and variations thereof are not as meaningful as you might think for several reasons:

-- there is another school of thought that believes the family members were businessmen, and they marked their stamps primarily for business purposes, not because they were experts in that field (in other words, it was a mark that primarily signified a money back guarantee, rather than meaning they had researched it in depth and found it to be genuine)
-- their marks are widely forged; in fact, I'm not at all convinced the mark you have is genuine -- the letters are way too thick for the specific J. H. STOLOW mark, and I've not seen it in that ink color (what expert uses reddish ink?)

The authenticity of the stamp must be determined independent of the STOLOW mark.

Nice stamp, and thanks for the nice big picture of the stamp!

Another question. I am not great at colour shades but the stamp looks more like #18 "rose" rather than #12 "orange".
My reference to colour is the pictures in Unitrade catalog.

and thank you for the information on the certification mark. I have had the collection in storage for about 30 or more years and now am trying to catalog and sell for retirement. Cataloging first.

Corrected Title to what it should be rather than what the identification tag said. I assume the tag "rep" refers to a repair on the lower left where the design is fuzzy. I wonder if the pencil mark #4 was to identify this as NFLD #4 "scarlet" colour. I obtained this over 30 years ago probably from a mail auction? while living in a small mountain coal mining town in BC.
