Hi John KGV Well done. I think I will be following your sales levels by the time I have been doing this for one year. Which is good news. I thought I saw you on TV, Today Tonight, they had a story on R Island. But I might be imagining things. |

Hmm I said to myself that has to be him on TV, how many John's living on Russell Island these days? They want to put a jetty on your land, you should charge admission for every boat load of tourists arriving. $5 per person. And they have to buy a stamp from you to. |

Now that is news to me. There is a limit on how close you can build to the waterfront these days and it has been a rule for over 10 years now. With a population of about 3,000 these days. Only about 100 to a 150 waterfronts. We face the NE so we are out. The west side of the island is where the action would be and that would be 1 of 15 waterfronts with houses on them. It is a state election time and transport is a big issue with rumours flying in all direction. We moved here 25 years ago then there was only 300 people living here and made sure our waterfront was safe from many things and a new jetty site on the island was one of them. It costs a worker to travel to the mainland and back again $18 per day and that is with a discount. We have lost most of our workers because of this and the majority of the new people are what we call runners.(hiding from one thing or another)Sadly we now have a lot of people on so called drug rehab. People straight out of jail including a lot of sex offenders. A lot of people that think that the only good thing to do is something that is against the law and people running from the law. Our front door has been kicked in 3 times in the past 2 years but they have needed medical help from base ball bat injuries. We need a change for the better I am sick of hitting home runs. At least the word is the stamp guy is not an easy target. Some of the hazards of being a stamp seller. |

KGV-----Sounds like a neat place to live, were I live near the Mc Donalds H.Q. just west of Chicago the big crime here is if someones dog poops on your grass. That calls for a call and visit from the local police . I like your description of "runners" |

back to the subject of selling on-line -----------It seems nobody discussed the importance of establishing what kind of stamp dealer you are and building up that speciality. What I mean is are you a collection/large lot /bulk seller or sell one country stamps,or do you sell complete sets ,or recent issues or only the classics .The dealer who will have the worst record of sales will be the person trying to sell everything to everybody .It sounds like the most important part of selling stamps is the repeat factor but for multiple sales and for safety reasons . The person who is just selling extra material from their own collection will have the hardest time ,were the person focus on a special market will do the best with building a regular customer base .

floortrader Thinking of one my favorite dealer on ebay he put to auction Europa complete years mnh and that is on a regular basis. He also auction complete sets of different European countries all mnh. Three weeks ago he start auctioning Romania from the 40's and 50's, a beauty, now Luxemburg. I bought many times from him and never had to worry, he's reliable and he ships worldwide. It's "geert123honda" from the Netherlands and you can find him everywhere on ebay. Daniel |

Alas, I am the seller that Floortrader is talking about..i try to sell worldwide stamps to other worldwide stamp collectors..and they are so fickle...but again I am not doing it as a "moneymaking proposition" I don't even have to break even...its like if I exchange stamps with someone...my purpose it to acquire stamps, I don't want to watch if someone is 50 cents ahead of me in catalog value..i am exchanging duplicates after all..it does not have to be catalog for catalog as far as I am concerned..so I am operating as a hobby not a business !! |
