I've been looking at those usb microscopes. What are your thoughts concerning them ? Would you have any recommendations on features ?

The one I have I got off e-bay from a Chinese seller inexpensive and worked right outa the box. Instruction are a bit lacking but at lowest magnification it works just fine for stamps.

Maybe a novice question on this subject, but what's the advantage of using a microscope as shown versus just scanning a hi res image on the stamp from any basic scanner? Is there a quality difference? Is it quicker to use than to just scan the stamp? Or could it be because of the convenience of looking at a mounted stamp in an album without first removing it?

Good question wt1

If you leave the stamp in any type of protective cover, the lights of the USB microscope will leave light marks like a flash of a camera would do in a window.

Also, at least with my experience using both scanners and USB microscope, as you would imagine, there are colour differences in the finished product.

To me, it is just another tool (for details it is great)

Also I find with the microscope it's a lot faster, just point and click. Instead of scanning and croping takes a step or 2 outa the equation.
