Hi alanl
You have a great thread here...it made me go through and check out all the stamps for this series that I have...for the most part they're error free...but some have marks and such...what are you looking for in this series? I heard reference to a "bar tag" are these rare?...I found some that have this I think...I'm kind of new to this...but very interested.
Thanks so much |

Some stamps have tagging bars on one side(4 cents) or both sides. This thread is for printing varieties...dots, scratches and blobs of ink. Some values have as many varieties as 100 but most of them are tiny. I just grab my magnifying glass and see what I can find. I am only aware of a handfull of known varieties. |

I get to a point where I think someone has already gone through these stamps and then something turns up. This variety has been reported in the BNAPS Journal as "Dots near the first and last As of CANADA". I`ve found another one with 2 dots but these dots have moved a bit. The one on top is the old one thats pictured in the BNAPS Journal. |

One more...I've noticed a slight difference..(besides the obvious lesser amount of ink) in the two 1 cent stamps..the eyes and ears appear different...not sure what else...I hope this isn't straying too far away from what you're looking for in this series. Take care for now. |

That dot on the 4 cent is nice. There`s hundreds of dots on these stamps. I wish I had a list to make it easier to find them. Is the 1 cent on the right a booklet stamp? The sheet stamps were printed by Canadian Banknote and the booklets by British American Banknote. They look very different. Or it could be that one got more ink than the other. |

When the postage rate was raised to 6 cents the post office gave BABN the contract for sheets and booklets. CNB privided BABN with copies of the dies but they were weak impressions. That`s why the stamps look like there under inked. |

Idaclare, to me, without much study on these at all, those two stamps, the sheet and the booklet version, do appear different. the booklet one looks to be reengraved or engraved somewhat differently than the sheet one.
The extra line below the earring, the hair at neckline has different styrokes and lines added.
But I suppose the trick is to notice differences betweem all stamps of the booklets, all from the same printer. Do all of these stamps (from the booklet) have that extra line below the earring, for example?
Stamps are fascinating if you just look close enough. |

Koala, I've got them, uncancelled, had to mail them to myself to get them cancelled, no problem. Have them here next to the computer, keep meaning to post them on here somewhere. Thanks again. |
