Hello, I have tried to translate the cancel on this revenue stamp and can only come up with Zarays or Zarais using Google translate. Neither of these words comes up online except as a last name. I am sure I am translating it wrong. Can anyone tall me what it means?
Thank you
David

Maybe it was cancelled in the town of Zaraysk, a hundred miles or so south of Moscow?

Hi David

These appear to be Russian "Import Duty" stamps from 1882.

I can't remember where I got the information from but I know at the time I did get it, I copied it down to place the information in my albums. There is also a 5Kon stamp in red and blue. Not sure of any other values.

Hope this helps?

Hi Bujutsu, I have to disagree a little on this one. It's a general revenue issued in 1879.

There was indeed a 5 kopeck red and blue value in the similar 1887 set.

I think Zaraysk is most likely. The line at the end could be a K. The space between the C and the line looks about the same as the space between the e-kratkoye and the C.

This revenue stamps, which are used to pay the fee.
It can be stamped with the name of the notary.
