Yesterday, at Ian Kimmerly's, I purchased a Lighthouse, hand-held, magnifying glass. This one has a switch and two white LED's illuminate the stamp you are looking at. I found it very useful when looking at the different shades of the KGVI stamps I collect.

It's one of the more useful stamp tools I've purchased lately.

David

Hi David
My Favorite Illuminated magnifying Glass Is An "AccuLux"
It Is A Rechargeable Unit That Simply plugs Into The Wall Plug-in
I Have Had Mine For About Twenty five Years .
Another Invaluable Tools Is The Right Stamp Tongs.
I Use The the 6 Inch Pointed As Opposed To The Spade Type.
And Most Important Is The Right Perf Gauge.
I Use The "Unitrade" Metal Gauge And The Showgard .
Sorry To Be So Long Winded

I have bought several of those over the years, and they never seem to last very long. (and yes, I know you have to change the batteries!)

Maybe just bad luck.

Thanks for starting this thread David

I'm on the hunt for a good hand held magnifying glass. How much does it magnify(3X, 10X)

Dianne:

This is a 2.5 X... most sufficient for what I do. It is also a "rimless" one, and comes with a nice cloth cover to protect the lens. I guess it's 2.5" in diameter.

I still have the GLASS Bauch & Lomb one that my father gave me for Christmas 30 years ago. It works great, and I keep it at home.

I have a 10X stand-alone magnifier for looking at the varieties on the stamps.

I also have a 15X, illuminating powerscope, for very fine detail, but I rarely use it.

DJD: I have the long, standard, "dealer" tongs". i've used them for years.
