Did some searching and didn't find any topics dealing with 19th century Spain in general, so I thought I'd start one. Not sure if anyone else here has any interest in early Spain, but maybe it'll spark something. Who knows, I might just be entertaining myself.

I'd love to see others' early Spanish issues, if you got'em.

I'll be posting recent pickups, discoveries, interesting tidbits of information, or just pick an item I like from my collection now and again.

Having said that, here are some recent "get's".

There is nothing really special about these. They are war tax issues from 1876 (left) and 1898 (right). Don't have much for stamp buying funds right now so I've been just trying to pick up some nice looking, centered copies of inexpensive items. Both of these are upgrades for me.

The stamp on the left is a pretty common stamp (Scott #45, Edifil #48), even unused, but when I find nice looking copies like this, I snatch them up, no matter that I already have dozens of them.

The one on the right however, I was pretty stoked about winning. There were only 2 bids and I think everyone else stayed away because they thought it was a damaged copy (note the big chunk of the image missing in the upper right), so I won it at almost a giveaway price.

The stamp itself is the 12 cuarto issue of 1862 (Edifil #59ita). The missing ink is actually from a damaged plate (actually 2 adjacent cliche's in the plate). You can see the catalog entry below. I have seen only a couple of these in auctions, mostly in adjoining pairs. This is the first one I've run across as an individual. Now I just need the right hand stamp.

That's it for now.
