King Carol 2nd was a famous and great stamp collector.

I had a feeling one of the Kings had been an eminent philatelist,
I wasn't sure which one,
I have seen stamps owned once by him.

Romania as a country, has a stong history of philately.
My early years of collecting, I had dismissed Romania
because of the vast amount of CTO material.
Now I really enjoy it, in part because most stamps
are available on a modest budget.

The 1930 census was the only one to cover Greater Romania. Censuses in 1948, 1956, 1966, 1977, 1992, 2002 and 2011 covered Romania's present-day territory. All but the 1948 census, which asked about mother tongue, had a question on ethnicity. Moldavia and Wallachia each held a census in 1859. The Romanian Old Kingdom conducted statistical estimates in 1884, 1889 and 1894, and held censuses in 1899 and 1912. Ion Antonescu's regime also held two: a general one in April 1941, and one for those with "Jewish blood" in May 1942.

ROMANIAN AUSTRALIANS

Romanian-Australians may include those who have immigrated to Australia from Romania, and those born in Australia from Romanian ancestry. According to ABS (2006 census) figures, there are 18,320 people with Romanian ancestry in Australia.

Romanians were for the first time registered in Australia more than 80 years ago. They were people that came there for working, missionaries, or seeking a more prosperous economic status. But the first wave of Romanian emigrants to Australia came after World War II, when Romania was experiencing severe economic and political problems. The Romanians who were then emigrating to Australia principally settled in areas around Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The number of Romanians who came to Australia at the time is estimated to be around 2,000 people.

The second wave of Romanian emigration to the Australian continent began after the Romanian Revolution of 1989, when the Communist regime fell and citizens received the right to leave Romania. They came in large numbers for the same reasons as the first-wave immigrants.

Oops, that cannot be the one,
our stamp has the engine on the wing.
I'll look for a further appropriate image.

Solution The Farman Jaribu did not have the engine on the wing
so Artistic licence for Mr. Ludovic Bessarab,
or another aircraft.

The Jaribu had 4 engines, 2 pushing, 2 pulling.

The Farman F300 is another enigma.
What is it doing on a Romanian stamp?

The F300 was a prototype by the French company Farman,
and only 1 was built, and used by Farmans own air.

Romania and France had a joint ownership company
servicing the European circuit.
First flight 13th January 1930
3 engined aircraft.
