Litho started a thread about old Canadian specialized catalogues and this gave me the idea to start a thread on older WW identifiers. I have a few of these in my collection and scanned a few.

Do any of you have old identifiers kicking around in your libraries?

This one had philatelic information in general but also has a large identifier section as well.

I think this is the one I have seen the most in other collections as well

Bujutsu and Cjd, you guys are amazing to have kept those items.

I definitely had The Stamp Finder (25c one) , I think every kid collecting had that.

Wasn't it from Kenmore, sent with their approvals ?

We're stamp collectors...we never get rid of anything.

I still have my father's cardboard perf gauges circa World War II. (And yes, I think one of them might have been Kenmore.)

Here's my Harris Stamp Finder.

The scary thing is that I knew right where it was!

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

These identifiers re really great to see. Some I have never seen before until now.

Litho, I think this was produced (the 25 cents one) by H.E. Harris because the address of the publisher was Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Rod - that is a great site and I have been in there many times before. I am not sure though if it is still being updated??

It is a great resource for those who are really in to Cinderella stamps. Boggles the mind really to see what is out there.

A little embarassing, but I can date that latest finder,
I recognise the fashion, the lampshade, the man's thin necktie,
the woman's Beatle neckline dress.
That has to be 1963
Well dressed, obedient children....those were the days.

Very good, Rod!
The copyright is 1964, the year I started collecting.
Did you notice that the boy is using tongs but the man is holding a stamp in his hands? LOL

Want to be embarassed. I still have a necktie or two laying around that was like that. In fact I used to dress like that guy. I have also found pocket protectors squirrled away from my engineering days.

It is embarassing when people send quizzes of the type "remember when?", or "remember this?", and I can answer YES to every question. That really makes one feel as old as dirt.

Here's one that I occasionally use. (From 1952) Sorry, but I couldn't get everything to fit on my scanner screen. Backside has Indian - Native states.

The round Mp Stamp Identifier is pretty handy, allowing you to find "something" on the stamp, and then rotating until a possible match comes up in the window. Circa 1952 which was 8 years before I was born, so Grandma was using it for quite a few years.
