Came across these in a box of sports cards and jello pudding cards. Never heard of Emo Ontario and was shocked at the amount of different postmarks on the back including 2 different RPO's one is WAR & DWL but the W in DWL looks like a sideways E - The second RPO is FT.FR&WPG RPO No.2 On the small cover there is no postage addressed to Canadian Army Overseas , I can make out Field Post Office but not the rest. The back cancel should be clearly readable.
The last censored cover is addressed to Ontario but I'm not sure of the town. This one is from Ecuador and heavily franked front and back . Can't really make out cancels other than it was 1941 or a blurred 1944.
Thought these would be interesting to our RPO/ Military specialist/

Ft. Fr. & Wpg. RPO = Fort Frances & Winnipeg Railway Post Office. The No. 2 postmark as shown was used from February 5, 1930 through July 31, 1958.

War & Dul RPO = Warroad & Duluth (Minnesota) Railway Post Office.

For more information checkout pages 45 and 46 at this link. If this source is accurate, it suggests that covers with both US and Canadian RPO postmarks are relatively scarce:

Very nice covers Nitro and they certainly would fit into a military mail or wartime mail collection.

wt1 beat me to the punch on the RPOs <G>

You can find a variety of different censor tapes used on mail to Canada from the South and Central American countries.

Emo is a beautiful agricultural community located on the Rainy River roughly midway between Fort Frances and where the river empties into Lake of the Woods.

Where the main streets of most towns have two sides Emo's only has one. If you sit on a main street bench here you can look across the river (with a good arm you can throw a stone across) and look upon the land where "in God we trust".

A few hundred years before you could sit on the river bank and watch the "fur brigades" going by carrying not only furs but "stampless covers".

Emo's most famous citizen (raised on a farm in the area) may be Angus Hills, who, although hardly known in Ontario, is recognized around the world for his pioneering work pertaining to the ecological relationship between various soil/landform types, climate and plant community succession from both an agricultural and forestry perspective.

Wow emo looks like home- I live right on US/Can border with Detroit river down the middle. However being further up north would be so much nicer.

Hi Nitro

Sorry, but no, I didn't receive it. If it is through the contact via the SCF, for some reason, they do not come through. This has happened on at least a couple of other occasions.

What in particular are you asking about the Essex Scottish?

My Grandfather was in the essex scottish and actually captured during the Dieppe Raid. My brother was part of Pricess Patricis light infintry in Calgary and now he's older he is looking for anything related to essex scottish. If you happen to have anything related I'm sure a trade could be in the works.

OK Nitro

I would have to check. There may only be those that are in my collection and no duplicates. However, I do have some military covers that are dupes and will have to check the unit markings etc.

Out of curiosity, did you copy and paste this from somewhere ? The reason I ask is that I've never heard of Emo being described quite like that. I lived in the town of Rainy River for over a year and frequently drove there since it was only about 50 clicks away. Regularly making the Rainy River to Thunder Bay trip took me through there and Fort Frances (Or Fart Frances as the locals call it due to the smell from the pulp mill).
