I think I am going to work on a Last Day of Issue cover for 12-21-12 end of the world by the Mayan Calendar. I'm thinking of maybe $100 a cover but you have to pay in advance - and delivery may be questionable after 12-21-12 due to end of world.

I think the rock band Rush had it right with their 2112 album so mayans may have been dyslexic. Although a catchet with Mayan calender and 12-12-12 postmark would be cool.

Staying on the topic of Last Day of Issue, I picked up the following several years ago. Both James Dean and Mars Rover were issued on the last day, June 20, 1998. An odd item and wonder if this is something someone actually collects?

You need a cartoonist for your cachet.

In the background, a hundred Mayans are busily carving symbols on rocks. One Mayan is standing up, chisel in hand, his flat rock split down the middle, the hieroglyphics ending at the bottom of one of the halves. Two soldiers are running up, waving their spears.

In the caption, he's yelling to the others, "Hey, anybody got another flat rock?"
