Red color is missing from the above booklet stamp.
I have been told that it is probably a forgery. I can't find any reference to this effect. Is anyone aware of this?

There's nothing in Unitrade about such an error. The perf is cited as 13.3 -- have you measured the perfs with precision?

I can't measure 13.3 with my perforation gauge. However,it appears to fit 13.25 -

The stamp is also tagged on all sides (GT4)

The greenish gum appears compatible with Coated paper,

You may have a new rarity - I hope so! And not all that many booklet panes printed anyhow. What's the basis for someone saying it's a forgery? Does it have full gum? If so, that makes "chemical" forgery unlikely.

I suspect the red and pink colours have been bleached out by sunlight.

There is faint colour on the front of the mitre around the white cross which I wouldn't have expected to see if the colour had not been printed.

I'm not really into errors but that one looked like the real thing
Major....
until Nigel pointed out the faint shadows on the mitre.

I only have this used sheet copy for comparison for the
members who are not familiar with the stamp.

But I believe such errors are out there since I have
heard a number of times that Ashton Potter was not
the secure Security Printer as for example Canadian Bank Note
was/is.
Printers waste did manage to walk out the door.

Thanks guys,

Based on your comments,I rechecked this stamp.

It has full undisturbed gum, similar to the normal stamp;

Its tagging is much weaker and has a greenish shade when compared to the normal stamp;

There is in fact a very weak shadow on the mitre, indicating that some color could have been there. If it is sunlight fading, I don't understand why the other colors are not affected. Good eye Nigel.

So now you gamble the cost of having it expertized? We need an image of the two copies side by side so we don't have to scroll up and down and forget what we've seen.

Here is the pair to compare. The regular stamp is from the pane of 50. I don't have a regular booklet example.

A close-up of the mitre shading is also included. I had to amplify the colors to get a better view.

Very interesting - the red is also missing from the orange of the staff. You can see the dots from the printing process in the example lithograving sent, especially in the staff, but not in the enlarged scan sent by Major1044. Were panes and booklets printed with different processes, or might this suggest a forgery? Or maybe only the red was printed using a different process? I'm in over my head here . . .

The dots are just halftone shading. Note the little girl's jacket, which is solid red, but her hand is dotted red. It's the same red, it just looks different because of the halftone. Both are missing from the variety stamp, of course.

The girl's boots, his shoe and the bag are greenish instead of brown. Could an absence of red cause this as well?

Tagging is definitely affected by sunlight. It is also quite common for pigments of certain colours to be much greater affected by sunlight than others, and red is one of them.

A neighbor of mine left his Christmas lights (red and green, not LED but the old type) up for a couple of years, and now the red are clear, while the green are still green (though faded).

The faint red indicates to me the colour was intentionally removed (or attempted to be).
