Hi All,

I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I grew up in Spain as a young boy and used to collect stamps with my grandfather. I recently inherited his stamp collection and would like to continue completing the collection.

I must admit my stamp knowledge is very limited, but I am very interested. Also, while reviewing the collection I found several stamps which have the words "Muestra" imprinted. I assume these stamps are reprints and have minimal value, however, please correct me if I am wrong.

Here are some stamps from my collection:

1926 Pro Cruz Roja Espanola

1927 Aniversario de la Jura de la Constitucion por Alfonso XIII

Thanks for looking and I look forward to interacting with you.

Robert

Spanish Stamps:
Very nice stamps. Welcome to SCO; Always glad to have new members. You'll find the folks here are extremely friendly and will do anything they can to answer any questions and will help identify your stamps.
You might want to write a short intro in the 'Identify yourself' Topic to let others know you're here.

That Red Cross set is one of my favorites from the 20th century. I collect mainly 19th century Spanish stamps, but I also have a general Spanish collection I work on occasionally.

The word "MUESTRA" means SPECIMEN. These are not reprints, they are genuine stamps that were sent out as, well, specmens. They are collected and alot of them are listed in the Edifil specialized catalog.

Based on the Standard Scott Catalog, your first 5 pics are the first of the Spanish Semipostal Issues. Lovely set, if you have the full set of 14, it can have a catalog value of $100, or more if never hinged. Catalog numbers B1-B13.I see you have key values though.

The set with airplane and map of Madrid-Manilla flight is also semipostal, Scott numbers B14-B18. It looks like you have a key value stamp in the set (4 pesetas) with catalog value of $80 or more if never hinged.

Last 4 pictures are numbers B60-B63 with Catalog value of $70 or $200 if never hinged.

Stamps like B60-B63 without overprint are CB1-CB5 CV at $10.00

Make sure you do not pull the stamps with your fingers, use tongs. Because, if your stamps are never hinged their value is much higher, but if leave you finger prints on them, it can reduce the value.

Hi All,

Art - Appreciate the advice and I will definitely write a short intro in the 'Identify yourself' section.

Spain - Thanks breaking down the "MUESTRA" stamps. I really thought they were worthless reprints.

Danko - Agreed. I definitely only use stamp tongs. Grandfather was really strict about only using them. Thanks for the Scott catalog references. I currently have an old Edifil catalog, but it sounds like the Scott catalog give much more information so I might have to purchase the V.6.

BTW, does anyone have any thought on those two stamps which I suspected as possible forgeries?
