I just can't figure out whether these are two different colors. My Scott's tells me that there is only 5c gray blue. The left one looks correct, but the right one seems darker ... almost brown olive. Also seems a tab overinked. Any ideas?

My (1996) Specialized Edifil, speaks about a garish blue stamp (the standard)and a blueish grey one. Perhaps are the two versions that you have.Value of both: minimum.

Thanks Cursus. As you can tell, it would not make sense to own all of the various country catalogs just to check a low value item like this. Thank again to the SCO Family.

From the picture it looks like your stamp on the right may have oxidized giving it an off color appearance.

Just a question about oxidation. These stamps have been in a closed album for about 50 years, not even seeing daylight. Probably didn't see daylight for 20 years before that. What actually causes oxidation if not exposure to daylight, heat, and other environmental factors?

Different causes, depending on the composition of the ink used.

But those types of changelings are usually caused by a pollutant (e.g., sulfur) in the air reacting with the ink. I am not familiar with the composition of the ink used on those Cuban stamps, so I cannot give you specifics.

could be the water that the stamp was soaked in ? But it most likely was in a tropical damp area ?
