Stamp shades are mostly noted and collected from the different printings of the same stamps over time ,long ago the color of the ink was not exact from one shipment to the next.Shades of stamps can be played with with exposure to sunlight or hotwater and especially to various chemicals.
Well, that article certainly cleared up any problems that I have had or ever will have concerning shade. Now if it had only applied to Scott 64/65 (US).
Interesting study with well measured data, charts, graphs and all.
It reminds me of all the soil studies I've seen in the journals of archaeology that charts the differences between sands, silts, loams and variations, but when I'm in the actual field performing archaeology all I can do is roll the soil between my fingers to tell the difference.
