All,

Can anyone tell me the Scott # of this Korea stamp? I got it in a group of W/W Airs, but can't locate it in my Scott Cat.

Then there are these Venezuela Airs. It looks to me like they might be Scott # C78. But Scott # 78s cat at $37.50 in my old 2001 scott cat. So I don't know. If they are # 78s I'll be wanting to put some of them up for sale/trade when I get enough posts in. Notice that in the toip stamp of the pair the "37" part of "1937" has a freak/error type abnormality in the printing.

The Korean stamp is not an air mail...it is #111 issued in 1949...scv 20cents.

The Venezuala OP airs look to be #C78 valued at $47.50 used in my 09 Scott......but, there is a possibility that the overprint is counterfeit.

There is no mention of how to tell the difference.

If real...the freak would be worth more as the pair...I would not separate it.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the ID on the Korea stamp and the info on the Venezuela C78.

Hi All,

I'd like to bring this topic up again and ask if anyone knows where I can find out more about the overprint on the Venezuela Airmail stamp pictured above. The Scott catalog says that Counterfeit overprints exist on C77 and C78. Specifically, how can I tell the difference between a real and counterfeit overprint?

Thanks,

Dave N.

Look at the Venezuelan stamps under high magnification to determine if the cancel is above or below the overprint. Most cancelled counterfeits are done in black ink or applied to already cancelled stamps.

Hi Dave

I looked in my Blanco (specialized Venezuela) catalog and they do not say how to tell the fake overprints.

You could try looking through the ASOFILCA site:
http://www.asofilca.com/

It is all in Spanish. If you do not read or speak Spanish, open the site in Google Chrome and you will have a translation button. I tried Google translate but could not get it to work.
