I was working on some of the 1st Bureau 2 cent Washington stamps the other day. There are so many shades that it is really difficult to understand. Before the internet and Google you had the USSS United States Stamp Society previously known as the Bureau Issues Association. George W Brett wrote a series of articles for their magazine "The Specialist" which details the differences, shades and dates of all of them. Mr. Brett was the author of over 500 articles, books and history of production and printings of the US postage stamps. We all owe some time to read his biography and remember his service to the hobby we love so much.

As an after though of reading the biography I looked on ebay to just see what was out there on him. I got very lucky and this is what I found.

That's a great find and thanks also warrehouse for posting the link. George was a really fascinating man and with his records at the smithsonian he left a massive amount of philatelic knowledge. His work will continue to influence for a long time to come. Wow!

I was just scanning some postcards today and the name "Spirt Lake" rang a bell when I saw the above cover. Looks a postcard sent to possible earlier relatives of George W. Brett.

It looks like we found one of the missing inverted Jenny's in Box #59. Quite a load of nice items there.

The biography in the Postal Museum link says he had a brother, W. Glade. The "c/o J.F. Brett" on the post card could be his father, John.

Regards, Robert
