The perf are not always mentioned in Scott for a particular set. In that case I assume it would be the same as the preceding set where it shows. I want to know the perf for Denmark 1884-88 #38-40. I have Scott 2007.
The set #38-40 are perf 14 x 13˝. But this is a good example of what a foreign specialized catalog can do for you. The Facit [Scandinavian] Catalog shows 8 to 10 varieties for each of these numbers, including shades, broken frame lines, and other small flaws. Used blocks of four are worth 10 times as much as four used singles, and a similar multiple for inverted watermarks.
Even a 20 year old Facit possibly costing $3 to $5 would show these varieties, of course. Catalogs of the past 15 years or so are in both Swedish and English.
doug2222 Thank you. You helped many on this forum. Great to have you here. When a collector look at a specialized catalog he understand that Scott gives only the basic information being a worldwide catalogue.
The notes at the beginning of each Scott standard volume mention that the perforations and watermarks are only listed when they change from the last time the are noted. It places the onus on the user to peruse backwards very carefully to determine which variation is valid for the current set. It's one of a few such shortcuts Scott uses that I personally find more than a little aggravating, especially for a publication that has been around for so long.
