This has been a very hard lesson for me to learn but maybe I have got international mailing right this time?

Expensive listing items have all got Reg Inter Post $15 charge to them. All other international listings now have a $3 mailing cost.

From my ebay listing description.

I took a look at your store and noticed that the shipping costs vary.
I took a screen grab to see what it looks like .

You still come back to the same old problem with registration -- the maximum indemnity is roughly U.S. $45, period.

Using ebay's "International" doesn't increase the coverage, does it? And who is liable in case of loss or non-delivery, the SELLER or ebay INTERNATIONAL??? I read that mess of verbiage over and over, and it makes no sense to me at all.

Have bulk edited the international mail. The scammers seem to be hitting the $10+ item or items with and not the smaller buyer.

The edit will take 24hrs or so to correct itself but will check all mailing through UK ebay as they will tell my computer UK cost unlike USA ebay they still see my computer as a OZ one.

Australia Post International Post costs for a DL envelope or 130mm x 240mm or 5ins x 9.5ins weight 500gms or 1lb1oz x 20mm or 3/4in thickness. $15.35c flat rate + Delivery Conformation $3.85c which is a signed card by the buyer. Total cost $19.20 But no stamps!

Standard international mailing cost from us is $3 and that is with a $2.60 stamp.

Australia buyers mailing is free or we pay for normal or Reg as we see it.

Hi doug2222.

I can not see a way with Australia Post to cover for lose of mail in transit. Even Track & Pack as they call it at $23.70c gives the seller no conformation from the buyer or insurance for loss.

As I read the new Aussie rule on extra cover it is a thing of the past. It must of cost Australia Post a heap of money but in that calculation would be personal. But in transit is a big risk. I will be keeping a tally so I can see what is going on with more interpreted info as it comes.

Have a good read to see what is insurable with registered mail with Australian Post.
Here in Canada Canada Post will not insure postage stamps used or new.So if I mail a lot of stamps by registered mail and it goes missing I cant claim.

It is possibile to get private insurance in Australia? I know of some stamp dealers in the U.S. who use it.

Hi Battlestamps. Thank you great idea!

An going to look into our own insurance. We get a great deal with our banks insurance company as we have been with them for 25 years and have never claimed.

Hi irishjack. Thank for the info.

When it comes to insurance the PO's seem not to limit high problem countries at all. They seem to be just stopping the whole idea of insurance altogether internationally and some countries even stamp in their own countries.

Last night a buyer from the USA purchased a $10 mint M/S or S/S and payed $15 for registered with reply card mail. We have sent this buyer a refund of $12 and have stated we have used our own insurance on their item. It is very obvious that this buyer is honest so why should we not refund on a $10 item!

Even with Post Office insurance or Private insurance, the onus for proof still comes down o the seller.

And with post offices, stamps cannot be insured, whether by register mail or by small packet or an expedited type of shipment.

The only option for really expensive stamps to be insured is through private insurance of the seller's own.

Otherwise, it is back to the 25c a shipment placed into the pickle jar, to save up for any possible loss incurred.

International mail order (which ebay selling is) has a certain element of risk and loss to it that, over time, the sellers recognize and take steps to avoid, as best they can.

The best insurance is to charge more for the stamps and shipping, unfortunately for the buyer of course, so as to cover projected losses, which do occur.

Somewhat like the old approval services. Buy cheap and sell dear, and hope for the best.

I shivered every time I had a sale of over $50 to mail out worldwide, or even within Canada. Not really for the postal services handling, but for the common human accidents that happen every day.

In Canada, registered mail only proves that a shipment (letter or package) left somewhere, and then arrived somewhere. That's it. But, it does make me feel better somehow.

Thanks Puzzler.

The pickle jar got emptied and the jar sold and still lost over $400 in 4 weeks! But in real cost is about $150 + mailing + costs + our time. They hit me in 3 groups in Europe Areas. 11 hits all expensive items. Mostly $50 to $70 buys. Varied replies but all wanting there money back!

Have just spent 3.5hrs trying to straighten out mailing cost differences between 441 lots only to find a warning at the bottom of the ebay page for ebay notices and it say "known relisting mailing cost problem".

Buying an Anchor store with unlimited auction listings next month is something I am very much looking forward too. Since we were forced into the BIN listing our sales have dropped by 50% and income by approx 65%. Stamp buyers want to buy by auction. But the Lady collectors love the BIN style of buying and a real pleasure for my wife! She is having a great time talking about history of the cats in the personalized stamps to stamp history in general.
